In the third quarter, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 7,788.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.0 percent.

In terms of different regions, the retail sales of consumer goods in urban areas was 5,316.5 billion yuan, rose by 22.7 percent over the same period of the previous year; that of retail sales at and below the county level achieved 2,472.1 billion yuan, up by 20.6 percent.

In terms of different industries, the retail sales of wholesale and retail trades was 6,557.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.0 percent; that of hotel and catering services was 1,105.5 billion yuan, up by 24.8 percent; that of other industries was 125.8 billion yuan, up by 4.0 percent.

In terms of different commodity categories, the retail sales above designated size of wholesale and retail trades, divided by foodstuff, clothing and utilized commodities increased 23.3, 25.9 and 28.6 percent respectively. Of which, the retail sales for grain and oil, meat, poultry and eggs, garments, cultural and offices appliances, sports and recreation, articles for daily use, household appliances and video appliances, furniture, cosmetics, gold, silver and jewelry, telecommunication appliances, automobiles, petroleum and related products went up by 28.6, 25.6, 26.5, 21.6, 18.0, 19.3, 19.6, 28.0, 23.6, 42.9, 4.4, 29.1 and 46.4 percent respectively, while that of building and decoration materials dropped 5.7 percent, year-on-year.

In September, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 944.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.2 percent.
