China's Door Exports Top US$447 Million in the First Five Months of 2006

China's door exports top US$447 million in the first five months of 2006 - up 50 percent from 2005. The new report prepared by Research and Markets indicates buyers sourcing doors from China can expect higher price quotes and increased capacity in the coming months. These findings are based on in-depth manufacturer interviews, factory visits and surveys

"Strong export growth is likely to continue for the rest of 2006. This is expected to be driven by increasing demand from overseas markets and more suppliers shifting focus from the fiercely competitive domestic market to exports," said General Manager of Content Development Michael Kleist.

China Door Manufacturers Increasing Prices, Production Capacity

Kleist said: "China's construction boom has led to a rise in the cost of solid and engineered wood. Despite higher costs for these materials, most makers say they will limit export price increases to 10 percent or less to stay competitive." Among surveyed manufacturers:

- 5 percent expect to increase prices by over 10 percent;

- 60 percent plan hikes of 5 to 10 percent, and;

- 35 percent expect increases of up to 5 percent.

Kleist added: "Even with higher export prices, strong demand worldwide is leading China's door manufacturers to increase capacity." Among those surveyed:

- 49 percent said they will add a new factory;

- 42 percent expect to upgrade existing facilities;

- 5 percent plan to increase subcontracting, and;

- 4 percent plan to expand capacity through mergers or acquisitions.
