Chinese business sentiment continued to deteriorate this month, despite a pick-up in the headline index, as rising costs and restrictions on credit availability took their toll, the results of the latest Xinhua Finance/MNI China Business Sentiment Survey suggest.

Xinhua Finance eziData China Consumer Confidence Index (CCCI) was updated today, with the survey results showing that Chinese consumer confidence in May remained unchanged from that in April at 94.9, despite of the serious earthquake disaster which happened in Wenchuan, Sichuan province earlier in the month.

Venture capital investment was strong in Mainland China during the first quarter of 2008 as investors put $719 million into 39 deals with media and advertising companies accounted for the bulk of deal activity and investment, according to the China Quarterly Venture Capital Report released by Dow Jones VentureSource. China's Inflation Is Easing

China's inflation is continuing at worrying high levels, and shows no signs of easing. Figures released yesterday show that inflation rose 8.5% in April from April 2007, and were up on the 8.3% rate in March, but down on the 8.7% in February, which was the highest for 12 years.
